Knitting Kits to Change the World

Knit together your creativity and compassion with the story of hope happening on the other side of the world.
KidKnits enriches traditional crafting by connecting creativity with responsible charity. By importing and packaging fair trade craft components from around the world, including hand-spun, hand-dyed natural wool, into simple craft kits, we bring you an opportunity to supplement your creativity with the chance to change a life on the other side of the world.

Our Story

Originally founded by a nine-year old crafter inspired after learning of the realities of extreme global poverty, KidKnits honors her initial mission by seeking to empower young people to “change a life on the other side of the world.” We partner with organizations around the world serving to enable women to change their lives through the dignity of work by importing their crafts and packaging them together as a KidKnits kit. Cultivating a spirit of global partnership, we bring a thoughtfulness to youthful creativity by sharing the powerful stories of these women with you while you knit and complete your own soft, warm KidKnits hat.

Social Business, the KidKnits way

KidKnits is unlike many social business models where a percentage of profit is donated back to a cause in a developing country. With the KidKnits model, the benefit in developing countries is not at the end, but rather the beginning of our operation. When we purchase inventory from our partners in Rwanda, Kenya, Liberia, and Chile, our partners are able to provide local artisans a fair price for their work. Therefore, their ability to support their family comes not after our bookkeeping is complete, but rather, before you even place your order. In addition, the artisans receive the dignity which comes through their quality work, rather than just receiving a handout. However, it is only through future demand that we can continue to increase our purchases from our partners and expand the global impact of KidKnits.
